North Kitsap Options Program

North Kitsap Options is a K-8 alternative public school program founded by a group of parents who set out to create educational choices for their children and in the process, left a lasting option for other area students for over 30 years.

What sets Options apart from other North Kitsap School District programs?

Classroom Structure

We are a K-8 school located on the grounds of Wolfle Elementary in Kingston, WA. The Options Program shares the principle, administration team, lunch room and specialists (music, library, PE) with Wolfle Elementary. Our classrooms are divided into four teachers that teach to multi-age classrooms: K/1, 2/3, 4/5/6, 6/7/8. To learn more about our amazing team of teachers, visit the 'Our Teachers' tab.

Volunteering

Volunteering is a fundamental component of the Options program. All families with kids enrolled in the Options program are expected to support the teachers and students by volunteering. Volunteer opportunities can be in the classroom, on committees, fundraising or with vital administration services.

Circles

Circles or mini-classes are a series of weekly parent- or student-led classes offering community members to share their expertise and interests with our students.

Classes have covered topics ranging from rocket building to meditation to owl pellet analysis.

Family Camp

Options Family Camp is a three-day school field trip held in either the Fall or Spring (and sometimes both). This is a community event that the students eagerly await each year.  At camp we work together to teach classes, prepare and serve meals, and have fun!  This is a rare opportunity to spend an extended amount of time together in a situation outside of our daily lives. By working and playing side by side, we form strong bonds and knit together the fabric that makes up our community.  As this is a family focused community event, parents and siblings are encouraged to come to camp.

Committees

NK Options has a variety of standing and ad hoc committees that provide fun and abundant volunteer opportunities. Our current committees include: Internal Communications, Marketing & Fundraising, Welcoming, Vision & Future, Enrichment & Learning, Program Environment, Finance and Camp.

Fundraising

Family camps, field trips, and enrichment classes all cost money – funding the district does not provide. As a community devoted to providing these extraordinary learning opportunities, we are equally committed to raising the required funds.

Our annual fundraiser is the Mystery Dinner Theater (or “MDT”). MDT evolved from the desire to “put the fun back into fundraising” and over the years, grew into a multi-night, multi-course culinary and entertainment extravaganza for hundreds of patrons. Every year alumni students and parents return to help current families in the kitchen, on the floor, and in the play, bridging generations of Options parents and students.
